Prison Warder To Spend 10 Years As Inmate After Selling Cannabis To Prisoners

A 31-year-old warder, Frank Obi, was
yesterday sentenced to 10 years
imprisonment by a Federal High Court in
Lagos, for drug trafficking. Justice Ibrahim Buba sentenced the convict
after he pleaded guilty to a one-count
charge of supplying restricted narcotics to
inmates at the Kirikiri maximum prisons,
Lagos. In his judgment, Justice Buba reprimanded
the convict for being a shame to lawful
authorities, and accordingly, sentenced him. “Following the guilty plea entered by the
accused, he is hereby convicted as charged,
and accordingly, sentenced to 10 years
imprisonment, without option of fine,” he
held. The sentence shall take effect from May 6,
when the convict was arrested, while the
convict is to be jailed at the Ikoyi Prisons. The judge said that it was indeed very
shameful, that a prison official who knows
the values of the prison system, and ought
to be a custodian of the law, is now the
perpetrator of crime.
