SURE-P has reduced crimes in Ondo – Hon. Omolafe

The Ondo State Coordinator of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Hon. Adedayo Omolafe has said that the acceptability of the programme by youth has helped in reducing crimes in the state.
In a statement issued and signed on behalf of the coordinator by the SURE-P Communication Officer, Bode Ogunyakinnu said over 3000 youth recruited into the Community Service Scheme are now engaged in sweeping, clearing of weeds, filling of potholes and construction of drainage system in the state.
Omolafe noted that each participant receives N10,000 monthly allowance.
The SURE-P coordinator stressed that the programme has also exposed the participants to banking culture and opportunities to enrol in any skill acquisition programme from the money saved out of their stipends.
Omolafe said “apart from creating temporary employment for the youth in the state, the programme has to a great extent reduced cases of armed robbery, stealing, restiveness and other forms of social vices in the state.
“It is on the basis of this that participants in the waiting are hanging around the state office of SURE-P to be enroled into the programme.
“To ensure that the programme spread to all nooks and crannies of the state, is important more participants are recruited into the programme, because the present 3000 is grossly inadequate compared with the services needed in the various communities”.
