FRSC Boss Urges Nigerians To Stop Attributing Road Accidents To Evil Spirits

frsc-officials..Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has urged Nigerians to stop attributing road traffic accidents to evil spirits. Ogagaoghene said this on Monday in Ibadan while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“There are no extraterrestrial or supernatural manipulations behind road crashes; rather, crashes are mainly caused by human error and other factors like poor infrastructure.
“While this notion is usually heightened during the ember months, we should realise that crashes are more during this period because of the high volume of vehicular movement.
“We are in the second of the four months of the ember months and we have so far recorded 49 crashes resulting in 41 deaths with 262 crashes.
“These accidents are not the making of any spirit being, but prominently caused by human factors,” he said.
He identified over-speeding as a major human factor responsible for accidents.
“Most drivers move at an average speed of 130km/hour, thus making it difficult to manoeuvre the vehicle in the event of any emergency.
“Speed thrills, but speed kills,” he said.
Other causes of accidents, he said, were  the use of  cell  phones while driving, dangerous overtaking, disobedience of  traffic rules and regulations as well as  lack of consideration for other road users. (NAN)
