Five Killed, Scores Injured in Plateau

At least five persons have been reportedly killed and scores of others seriously injured in a fresh attack on Kuka village in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State Sunday. A source from the village said over 200 houses were also burnt in the attack. The attackers who reportedly came in scores stormed the village early Sunday morning with sophisticated weapons shooting and setting houses on fire. Shendam is a local government in the southern part of the state and about 300 kilometre from the state capital, Jos A source from the village, Mallam Abdullahi Ragmin told newsmen on the phone that the attackers came and burnt over 200 houses and killed five persons, among whom are Mallam Inuwa 60, Yakubu Kaura 43, Alhassan Abdullahi 50, Abdullahi Dungu 35, while Abdurrahman sustained a fractured arm, and Musa dan Union was shot in the abdomen and are presently hospitalised. Another source said the attackers outnumbered policemen stationed at Kuka village. He explained, “We all ran into the bush while they burnt our houses and mosque and shot at people but 30 minutes later military reinforcement came from Taraba State which boarders Kuka.” When contacted the Special Task Force (STF) Media and Information Officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha, while confirming the attack said: “I can only confirm two deaths. The attackers were estimated to be about 100 in number, they burnt some houses but they have been repelled and calm has returned.”
