Suspected members of deadly Boko Haram sect have attacked a Borno village again killing 12 persons and setting ablaze several buildings, it was yesterday learnt.
Sources revealed to journalists in Maiduguri yesterday that the terrorist group laid ambush on Sandiya villages of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state on Wednesday killing no fewer than 12 persons, setting on fire several houses and displacing large numbers of residents. Damboa is about 85 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital which had witnessed several deadly attacks by the sects.
It is surprising the manner the sect regrouped after several fatal damage was dealt on it by the military who continually killed the members of the sect in both land and air raids on it’s camp mostly in Sambisa game forest.
It was gathered that the gunmen were on a revenge mission to the community which they alleged was against their activities.
Sources said the some members of the village were said to be opposed to the activities of the sect and therefore exposed their modus operandi to the military who used the information to record successes in recent confrontations.
This development according to the source did not go down well to the terrorists and they mobilised and arrived Sandiya village in the midnight on the fateful day and started opening
fire on residents even as they set their houses ablaze. The source said the gunmen numbering about 30 fully armed came in three Hilux vehicles and motorcycles and started chanting Allahu Akbar (God is Great), before opening sporadic gun fire on the helpless and unarmed residents which led to the killing of 12 of them, while several others sustained gunshot wounds.
Confirming the incident in an email message to journalists, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tanko Lawal said, “The story is true, hoodlums invaded the community and killed 12 people, burnt houses, steal vehicles/ motorcycles.”
