The Daily Star reports that Arsenal are lining up a twin swoop to bolster their defence before the summer transfer window closes and are hopeful that their victory in Istanbul against Fenerbahce will be enough to convince the likes of Manchester City’s Micah Richards and Swansea’s Ashley Williams to jump ship.
Arsenal have been linked to both defenders for a while now, and while their interest in them is an open secret, the Gunners are yet to table official offers for either man. Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins had also warned Arsenal against bidding for Williams, declaring it was too late now to convince them to do business as they wouldn’t be able to bring in a suitable replacement for their skipper in the time left in the transfer window.
Manchester City might have been more open to the idea of parting with Richards, but the home grown talent is one of the few fit defenders left in their squad, and injuries to the likes of Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic might prevent the Gunners from being successful in their pursuit of the 25 year old Englishman.
