We’ll sanction Kebbi flood victims who refuse to relocate – Commissioner

The Kebbi Government will sanction
flood victims in Yauri and Shanga Local
Government Areas who refused to relocate to the
plots of land allocated to them by the
government. Alhaji Hussaini Raha, the Commissioner of Lands
and Housing, issued the warning on Wednesday
in Birnin Kebbi, while speaking with Journalists. He said that the ministry had allocated 203 plots
of 1,000-square metre residential land to the
victims of the flood which ravaged the area
between 2010 and 2013. Raha, however, expressed regret that the some of
the victims failed to relocate to the land that was
allocated them. He warned that if there was a recurrence of the
flood disaster, the government would not bear
the burden of those who failed to relocate to the
plots allocated to them. He said that his ministry had identified some
flood prone areas in Gwandu and Yauri emirates. Besides, Raha commended Alhaji Muhammadu
Kwaido, the Chairman of the state’s Committee on
Resettlement of Flood Victims, for the prudent
way he managed the resources meant for flood
victims. He also lauded Kwaido for the “equitable’’ way he
disbursed the funds to the victims. Raha noted that the committee returned N82.9
million to the government coffers after the
disbursement of the compensation. (NAN)
