IGP Mohammed Abubakar Remarries Months After Wife’s Demise

Nineteen months after losing his first wife,
Maryam, Inspector General of Police,
Mohammed Abubakar has remarried in Abuja. The 53-year-old has married 35-year-old
Zarah Bunu, daughter of a former Nigerian
minister, Bunu Sheriff Musa. Among the dignitaries who witnessed the
marriage of the police boss include, Vice-
President Namadi Sambo, Minister of Justice,
Mohammed Adoke, multi-billionaire
industrialist, Aliko Dangote, and state
governors. Also at the wedding were two former Heads of
State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, and Ibrahim
Babangida, Minister of the FCT, Bala
Mohammed and members of the National
Assembly. The wedding (fatiha) which took place at the
National Mosque, Abuja was conducted by the
Chief Imam of the mosque, Ustaz Mohammed. Mohammed prayed for the success of the
marriage, which held about a year after
Abubakar lost his wife, Maryam, who died in
January, 2012 shortly after Abubakar was
appointed as acting IG. Zarah, Abubakar’s wife who schooled in both
the United Kingdom and Nigeria currently
works at the External Relations Department of
Afren, an independent oil and gas company.
