Four Docked Over Possession Of Pistol, Live Ammunition

Boko_haram_armsNo fewer than four suspected persons were on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly being in possession of a Berretta Pistol and two rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects were Adejumo Ismaila(32), Adebiyi Tunde(23), Abayomi Adekanle (22) and Onah Johnson (25).
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Oladoye Joshua, told the court that the accused persons unlawfully armed themselves with one Berretta Pistol with two rounds of live ammunition and failed to give satisfactory account of how they came by them.
Oladoye stated that the accused persons committed the alleged offence on August 6, 2013 at about 12:20pm at Ilesa Brewery Junction, Ilesa, State of Osun.
The accused persons, according to the prosecutor, committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State 2003 and 27(1) (A) of the firearms Act F.28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them.
Defence counsel, Barrister Dupe Olarenwaju, applied for the bail of the accused persons in the most liberal term.
Olarewaju, who prayed the court to temper justice with mercy on her clients, said they were still presumed innocent until contrary was proved in a court of law.
She assured the court that reliable sureties would stand for the accused persons, promising that the suspects would not jump bail if granted.
Ruling on the matter, Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aluko directed that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to affidavit of means, and provide certificate of tax clearance and two clear passport-sized photographs to the court.
He added that the address of the sureties must be verified by the police in-charge of the case, and thereafter adjourned the case till October 23, 2013 for mention
