Flood: Two Killed, One Injured In Ibadan After 24-hrs Of Non-Stop Rainfall – Police

The Police Command in Oyo State has
confirmed the death of two persons and
another injured in a flood which followed 24
hours of rain in Ibadan on Monday. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state,
Mrs Bisi Ilobanafor, told the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday that the
incident occurred around 8.15a.m near
Challenge Police Station. Ilobanafor said that one of the victims was a
commercial motorcyclist while the other was
an old man. “The old man’s name was unknown. He was
going in the rain and his leg slipped causing
him to fall, hit his head on a stone and he
died on the spot. “The other one was an okada (motorcycle)
rider with his passenger. They were swept
away by the flood. The passenger was
rescued, he is receiving treatment at UCH;
while the cyclist’s corpse was seen along the
road around 2.30 p.m. on Monday,” she said. Ilobanafor, said the Commissioner of Police in
Oyo State, Mr Mohammed Indabawa, had
directed that policemen should be stationed
at the flood point to prevent others from
falling victims. “As at now, some policemen are there to
direct people away from the area so that those
ignorant will not fall victims,” she said. Ilobanafor advised residents to avoid going
out in the rain and flooded areas so as to
avoid falling victims of such scary
circumstance. “People should be conscious of where they
put their legs whenever it rains because one
may not really know the even ground from the
uneven one when everywhere is covered by
water. “So, the best thing is to walk in an area one
can see well than for one to put his or her legs
anywhere,” she said. (NAN)
