FG forwards Medium Term Framework to Senate

The Senate has received for consideration, a copy of the 2014-2016 Medium Term Framework from President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a letter read by the Senate President, David Mark during plenary on Tuesday, the president said the submission of the 2014-2016 MTEF was done in preparation of the 2014 budget that will be submitted to the legislature in the coming weeks.
The letter reads; “Pursuant to provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, the developments towards preparation of the 2014 budget have culminated in the 2014-2016 MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP.
“Prepared against the backdrop of global economic uncertainty, the 2014-2016 MTEF and FSP reflect the reality of our circumstance; and will ensure that planned spending is set at prudent and sustainable levels consistent with government’s overall medium-term developmental objectives.”
Additionally, Jonathan in three separate letters, requested the upper chamber of the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of Hon. Justice Ibrahim Bukar as Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; Mr. S.U. Ahmed, as an Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and Mr. Muhammad Sirajo Wudil, as member of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Senate confirmed the nomination of 8 Ambassadorial nominees.
The names had earlier been forwarded by the president on July 4, 2013 before members went on recess.
