55 firemen petition Jonathan over demotion, sacking

Fifty-five staff members of the Federal Fire
Service have petitioned President Goodluck
Jonathan claiming that they were illegally
demoted and retrenched by the agency in
violation of the law. The petition, written by their lawyer, Muyiwa
Ogunkolade, dated August 25, 2013, stated
that the affected workers were demoted from
grade level 10 to 07 and 04, noting that they
were not paid their terminal benefits even
after they were illegally disengaged from service. The firemen alleged that since December
2012, when their salaries were stopped, they
had continued to receive alert from their
pension fund administrator, Premium Pension
Limited, indicating that the balance of their
salaries were being diverted.
