Gunmen, yesterday, bombed the
Area Police Station in Osara, Adavi Local
Government Area of Kogi State, killing three
police officers and one other person. Vanguard gathered that the gunmen
numbering 20 attacked the station around 10
p.m, using dynamite. Some of the gunmen were said to have shot
sporadically into air at the Police Station’s gate,
scaring away passersby, villagers and students
of the state polytechnic, Osara campus which
is adjacent the police station. An eyewitness said some of the villagers
scampered into the bush to avoid been victims. The villager who died in the attack was said to
be visiting a friend who lives near the police
station. He was hit by a stray bullet while
running from the gunmen. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Romanus Nwaneri, who confirmed the incident
said investigation was ongoing on the motive
of the attack, stressing that the gunmen were
unable to get any weapon from their armory.
