A combined team of Joint Military Task Force (JTF) and personnel from the State Security Service (SSS) Tuesday killed two terrorists during a shootout with the troops at Gayawa area in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The JTF said after an intelligence build up, it also mounted a snap check point along Kankara-Sheme Road in Katsina State to intercept the fleeing terrorists from the operations in the north-eastern axis of the country. The spokesman of the JTF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said in a statement made available to journalists that two terrorists were intercepted and apprehended on their way to Zamfara State. According to him, items recovered from them were two AK 47 rifles, four magazines, 68 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a Nissan Sunny car. Iweha said: "Following the interrogation of the terrorists, a further cordon and search operation was also conducted this morning, November 19, at about 6:30a.m. at Gayawa village in Kano,
while items recovered from them include two AK 47 rifles, five magazines, 91 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, among other items. He said the proactive reactions of the JTF in Kano had continued to deny terrorists freedom of action and from using the state as a launching pad to attacks other parts of the country. The JTF spokesman added that "This is as a result of the support the JTF is receiving from members of the public who enjoined to compliment the efforts of the JTF by carrying out thorough checks on the background of persons who wish to let properties especially on outskirts areas." He said the JTF in Kano would not allow the state to be used as haven for terrorists.
“The appeals of the JTF will continue to be complimented with the destruction of properties terrorists reside in and the arrests of their owners.” The JTF therefore called on all residents in Kano not to relent in the fight against terrorist elements who are seeking refuge in the state by reporting any suspicious persons regardless of gender for immediate action to prevent the loss of lives and properties.
