Former Heartland of Owerri striker, Brendan Ogbu will be fully fit within a week to start training after suffering a muscle tear injury while on trial with Yanga FC of Tanzania, the player revealed to Goal.
Ogbu was Naze Millionaires' hero at the 2012 Federation Cup final when he scored in the 90th minute to hand the trophy to the Owerri side after a 2-1 win over Lobi Stars.
He was unable to secure the renewal of his preferred loan deal with Heartland and thus opted out of the club before he got a contact to travel to Tanzania for a six months with giants Yanga FC for USD150,000.
Ogbu was close to being handed a contract before the mysterious injury he sustained during warm up that put paid to his ambition.
The initial prognosis indicated he would be out of football for six weeks but the players has disclosed that another doctor has confirmed to him that he would only stay out of action for two weeks. These two weeks will expire next week, the player said.
Ogbu told Goal:"I thought I could go to Tanzania and grab the money and then come back to see what happens. Everything was going on fine for me until I got that injury in my final warm up.
"I was about to go in and play before the fans for them to see their new acquisition in action but it was not to be. They do not have good training pitches and it was the cause of the injury. I have forgotten about that and I'm focused on the future."
The striker became a sought after player when two seasons ago he netted 12 goals in a season for Enugu Rangers before he was lured away by Heartland last season.
