NAFDAC hails Onitsha medicine dealers for surrendering fake drugs

The National Agency for Food, Drug
Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Tuesday,
lauded what it termed the bold initiative by the
executive members of the Onitsha Patent and
Proprietary Medicine Dealers Union, OPPMDU,
in voluntarily surrendering unwholesome drugs worth over N25 million to the agency for
destruction. Assistant Director of NAFDAC in-charge of
Onitsha Special Zonal Office, Dr. Christiana
Esenwah, who made the commendation while
receiving the drugs from the traders, said the
bold initiative was a giant stride towards ridding
the market and Onitsha of expired drugs. According to Esenwah, “this goes a long way to
show that NAFDAC’s partnership with traders in
its fight against fake, sub-standard, expired,
unwholesome and adulterated drugs is yielding
anticipated results. “We are grateful for this step of ridding this
market of unwholesome, expired, fake and
sub-standard drugs for the benefit of all and
the agency is still looking up to the market
executives to do more.”
