Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State who doubles as the chairman of a faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has summoned a meeting of the 36 states governors on Sunday.

This is coming as he condoled with the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola over the death of his father, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ademola Fashola who died last week.

In a summon sent to all the governors, THISDAY gathered that the agenda include the continued strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the constitutional amendments, especially as it regards the local government autonomy.
THISDAY gathered that the Chairman of Federal Government negotiating team, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue state was expected to brief his colleagues on the progress made so far in trying to convince ASUU to call off the strike embarked by university teachers.
Also, the meeting would attempt a consensus position on the controversial local government autonomy as the National Assembly was about to commence the harmonisation of their positions on the local government autonomy.
The Senate voted against the local government autonomy, while the House of Representatives voted for the council autonomy. The National Assembly is expected any moment from now to set up a conference committee for the harmonisation of the positions of the both arms of the National Assembly.
The meeting of the Jang’s faction of the NGF is expected to hold Sunday August 10 at No. 2 Nana Close, off Erie Street, Off Nile Street in Maitama Abuja. The Sunday meeting of the governors is also seen in many quarters as a test of popularity of the faction led by the Plateau State governor.

In a related development, Jang has expressed shock and sadness at the passing of Alhaji Abdulrasheed Ademola Fashola, the father of Lagos State Governor, Tunde Fashola.

According to a statement released in Abuja by the NGF media office, Jang also extended his sympathy to the entire Fashola family and the people of Lagos State, noting that the passing of such a patriarch will indeed leave a huge vacuum in the lives of the Fashola family and Lagosians.

The factional NGF Chairman noted that the late Fashola can rest peacefully knowing he had blessed the nation and the people of Lagos State with a selfless servant in the person of Babatunde Fashola. He assured the Lagos State governor that the members of the forum will continue to pray that God will comfort him and his family at this time of grief.

Also, Jang expressed shock and anguish at the news of the death of three members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in a motor accident recently. In a statement released in Abuja by the NGF media office, Jang on behalf of the Nigeria Governors Forum sympathised with the NUJ and the bereaved families of the journalists who he encouraged to take solace in the fact that their loved ones died in the course of carrying out their commitment to a profession they loved.

He also wished the journalists who were injured in the road accident speedy recovery as they undergo treatment for injuries sustained in the accident, adding that the governors would continue to pray that God should comfort all as they mourn this painful loss.
