The Federal Government has expressed
hopes to fully develop the capacity of about
six million Nigerian youths through
Integrated Youth Empowerment Programme
(IYEEP) launched with the Mara Foundation
within 12 months. In collaboration with Mara Foundation, FG
said it hopes to lessen the number of youth
unemployment across the country. Speaking on the programme, Special
Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on
Youth Empowerment, Ambassador Obinna
Adim explained that the partnership
between the government and Mara
Foundation was essentially to proffer a formidable base for youth empowerment in
the country, adding that the initiative aims
to provide solutions for youth leadership
and development. “The mentorship programme will serve as a
provider of non-formal education aimed at
bridging the gap between school and life
after school, enhancing young people’s
potential for success by making them
approach life as entrepreneurs,” Adim said. Adim noted that the support services were
expected to transform business ideas of
entrepreneurs into profitable and thriving
business entities that would employ other
Nigerians and contribute to local, state and
national economies.
