Arsene Wenger is on the verge of making his first
major move in the summer transfer window - by
landing former midfielder Mathieu Flamini. The 29-year-old has been training for the last two
weeks with the Gunners after being released by AC
Milan earlier this summer. Flamini quit Arsenal to join the Italian giants five years ago but looks set to make his return to
north London. According to the Daily Mail, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been impressed with the efforts of
his former charge during training, and will offer
him a deal to add depth to his injury-ravaged
squad. Midfielders Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby and Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain are all currently injured,
prompting Wenger to admit he is looking to sign
a midfielder in this window. The deal should mark the start of a flurry of
transfer activity for Arsenal ahead of the final day
of the summer window on September 2. The Gunners are believed to be attempting to land Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and have also
targeted a deal for his team-mage Angel di Maria . The north London club have also had a £10
million bid for Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye turned
down. Wenger confirmed last night after his side's 3-0
Champions League play-off win against
Fenerbahce that his attempt to land Liverpool
forward Luis Suarez is at an end
