Alan Pardew hopes Yohan Cabaye's future is soon resolved, with the Newcastle boss anxious to work on a replacement should he join Arsenal, as has been proposed.
The Magpies have already rejected one offer from the Gunners for the France international, with a £10million bid believed to have been tabled by the north London club on the eve of their clash against Manchester City on Monday.
Pardew claimed the timing of the bid was 'disrespectful' as the Magpies boss felt he had to remove a potentially distracted Cabaye from the match-day squad, which eventually lost 4-0 to the Citizens.
The 27-year-old was again missing as Newcastle drew 0-0 at home against West Ham on Saturday, although Wenger said a second approach had not been made, as was reported in the media after this weekend's draw.
Pardew, though, is hoping a decision on Cabaye's future can be made soon, even if it means the midfielder leaves St James' Park.
He said: "The situation's quite simple, really. We need to resolve this and get ourselves in a position where if he stays - great - and if he doesn't, then we get someone equally as good.
"That is probably where we're at, and I don't really want to say any more than that."
