Bale set for Monday presentation, but Wales commitment frustrates Madrid

The Spurs star is due to travel back to Cardiff
on Tuesday to prepare for international games
against Macedonia and Serbia, meaning he will
not train in Spain until September 11th

Real Madrid are set to complete the signing of Gareth Bale in the next 24 hours and plan to unveil their new player on Monday, but the
Spanish side are frustrated with the forward's
international commitments with Wales which
mean he will be unable to train with his new
club until September 11th. A deal with Tottenham has been in place for
several days and Madrid had hoped to unveil Bale last
Tuesday, but Spurs are still busy in the transfer
market themselves and discussions over how
the fee will be paid have held up the
announcement.
Madrid erected a stage in the stands for Bale's presentation on August 23rd, but the Blancos have been forced to dismantle the
construction for the visit of Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Sunday.
Real may now opt to unveil Bale on the pitch
itself, as they did with Cristiano Ronaldo among
others, and president Florentino Perez hopes
for a packed-out Bernabeu as most madrilenos
return from their summer holidays this weekend.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has devised a special
fitness plan for Bale, who has not played an
official game since scoring for Spurs in a
friendly win against Swindon on July 16th - his
24th birthday. However, Bale is due in Cardiff on Tuesday as
Wales prepare for crucial World Cup qualifiers
against Macedonia on Friday, September 6th
and Serbia four days later.
That means the 24-year-old will be unable to
train with his new club until September 11th and he could be in line for his long-awaited
Madrid debut away to Villarreal in the Primera
Division three days later.
Meanwhile, Marca claim Madrid will attempt to
convince Wales to allow Bale to stay in Spain
during the international break. However, any such request is likely to be rejected by the
Welsh Football Federation.
